Abstract

Abstract: The elevation information of earth surface and the features over are very important for many applications. Many methods can be used to get these information, either by traditional surveying methods witch require big efforts and high cost in addition to the ling time, or by vectorization of contour lines of topographic maps, this method offers active products but needs long time and are affected with the topographic maps w.r.t the date and accuracy. So, new method must be used to avoid the requirements of long time, high cost and big efforts. Photogrammetric techniques offer fast and moderate cost solution to get elevation information with modern date. This can be done either using blocks of aerial photos or stereo pair satellite images with the same quality of aerial data with lower cost in the case of high-resolution satellite images. Digital elevation models DEMs are required for many applications including, geology, civil engineering, military…etc. In this paper 7.5m spatial resolution DEMs for parts of Syrian coastal zone are generated using stereo pair Cartosat Satellite images with 2.5m spatial resolution. Additionally, effects of the number and distribution of Ground Control Points GCPs are evaluated.
