Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to present the importance of integrating the technical inspection data for oil companies and the Geographical Information System (GIS), where the oil companies carry out a process of technical detection and inspection, to detect corrosion in the oil pipelines, using smart devices called the Smart Pig, which gives detailed data. On the type of corrosion (internal or external), its shape, location, thickness and severity. However, this data alone does not allow pipeline operators to achieve optimal pipeline corrosion management. This paper has shown that the integration of the smart skimmer data with the geographic information system helps in achieving the optimal management process for the corrosion of oil pipelines. By taking advantage of the features offered by the GIS system, it is possible to achieve the greatest benefit from this data, as it helps in determining the places of corrosion accurately. Which contributes to directing maintenance teams quickly to places of corrosion or leakage. It also has a major role in exploring potential hazardous corrosion places that may appear in the future, based on the analysis of the most important factors causing corrosion and the application of the feature of spatial analysis available in this system, which helps decision makers to take appropriate measures and follow protection methods for pipelines, which reduces waste, saves money, and prevents production interruption.
